Third Thursdays with The Castle: A Day in the Life: The Newton Family 1858

  • Marietta Castle Museum 418 4th Street Marietta, OH, 45750 United States (map)

Step into 1858 and experience a day in the life of the Newton family, original residents of The Castle. This immersive event offers a window into the daily rhythms, fashions, and customs of a prominent household in early Marietta.

Discover the fashion of the time period with a hands-on look at 19th-century clothing. Learn about the life of a domestic servant—essential to the home’s function—through interpretation and demonstrations of daily duties. Try your hand at common chores of the period and explore the skills needed to keep a household running smoothly.

Young visitors will enjoy playing authentic games once loved by children of the era—no batteries required! Then take a break with a mini-tea sampling, just like the Newtons may have done, and engage in conversation about the customs and social expectations surrounding tea in early American society.

This event brings the mid 1800s to life through engaging activities, historical interpretation, and interactive fun for all ages.
