The Lafayette Hotel was named after Marquis de Lafayette, a French hero of the American Revolution who visited Marietta in 1825 at the very spot the hotel currently stands. Marietta businessmen built The Lafayette, which opened on July 1, 1918. Today, the hotel is a grand riverboat era establishment as well as a historical landmark.
